The sanctuary is one of the richest bird areas in the world and is known for nesting of resident birds and visiting migratory birds including water birds. The 29 km2 park is locally known as Ghana and is a mosaic of dry grasslands, woodlands, woodland swamps and wetlands which house over 350 bird species, 40 species of fish, 15 species of snakes, 5 species of lizards, 4 amphibian species, 7 turtle species, 8species of mammals. It is major attraction for bird and reptile enthusiasts, Bird watchers, Wildlife Photographers and Ornithologists around the world who keep visiting the park regularly. There are well-defined walk ways / treks which can easily covered on foot or you can hire a cycle or rikshaw or even boats. The best time to move inside the park is early morning for the best rewarding experience. Bharatpur is very well connected by road, railways and air. From Bharatpur Agra is 56 kms, Delhi is 184kms and Jaipur is 180km.
